Question:
What kind of weed is this? I found it in my pond. (Followed by a description.)
Answer:
Sometimes we can answer immediately over the phone, sometimes not. There is a very good diagnostic tool from Texas A&M in connection with TPWD, and the Ag Extension, called Aquaplant. It makes plant identification easy with clear pictures and descriptions. Using this tool could save you some time and frustration! |
Question:
Will the chemical treatment recommended, kill my fish?
Answer.
No, if applied properly. When fish kill occurs, it is rarely a direct result of aquatic vegetation controlling chemicals. The parts per million are so small, that a significantly higher than recommended dose would be required to do this.
When fish kill occurs, it is usually a result of oxygen deprivation. This is normally caused by too much decaying matter in the water. This is most often caused by trying to eliminate too much vegetation in one treatment. The solution is simple. Never treat more than one half of the pond or lake in one application.
